This article examines the spatial distribution and the dynamics of agriculture production in the MATOPIBA region, Brazil, using visual and quantitative techniques. We used the network analysis to model the region’s productive structure for selected years from the period from 1990 to 2012, and the mathematical concept of distance to measure the intensity of interannual changes. We considered 65 products with established incidence in at least one of the 31 constituent microregions. The results pointed out the coexistence of distinct productive profiles in the region which have been differentiating during the analyzed period, although a relatively stable core of microregions that share the production of livestock and livestock products has persisted. These results also show the use of network modeling as a valid analytical technique in the regional studies of agriculture.Downloads
