FIGUEIREDO, V.D.M. and TEIXEIRA, J.G.L.C. 1989. SOCIAL DIFFERENTIATION AND UNION RESPONSE TO THE TECHNOLOGICAL: CHANGES IN BRAZILIAN AGRICULTUREThis paper presents a pannel of the processes of social differention which emerged in Brazilian agriculture as a result of the recent technological modernization. It shows how the processes generated new productive agents, recreated some and kept others in a inertial state. It also analyses the perceptions of those agents mainly in relation to the use of new inputs and agricultural machinery and how they are responding to the implications of this modernization by emphasizing the demands of their trade unions. The pannel is based upon case studies conducted at the Department of Sociology of the University of Brasília over the period of two years. These case studies dealt with the relationships between the role of the State and its policies for the agricultural sector and the consequences for the in-volved social agents.
