Abstract

This paper develops a theoretical perspective for analyzing peasant production within capitalist society. Drawing mainly from brazilian literature, a critical review is made of previous works relating peasant production with the larger capitalist society. Subsequently, it is argued that although peasants are not salaried workers, they nevertheless work for capital as an important source of labor. It concludes with some considerations about the reproduction of peasant production in brazilian society.
