Abstract

This work presents a picture of the development of biotechnologies on the international level, particularly in the developed countries. It attempts to ascertain the importance of this sector for the economic future of developing countries, particularly with regard to the economic impact on international trade, as well as the effects biotechnologies will have on the industrial structure, especially concerning the tendency toward unification of the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and agricultural sectors.
