The insect-fauna of Itatiaia and of Mantiqueira

Abstract

In this paper the authors relate to two suborders, Frenatae and Julgatae of the Lepidoptera order a total of 48 families, 929 genera and 2541 species, which were with few exceptions observed, collected and partially classified and reared by the authors. This work was conducted over a 36 year period from 1915 to 1951 in the localities of Passa Quatro and Virginia, State of Minas Gerais, situated in the west zone of the Serra da Mantiqueira and Itatiaia, State of Rio de Janeiro, in the southern part of the mountain of the same name. The above mentioned specimens belong to the collection "Zikán" now deposited at the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, State of Guanabara. The Family Acraeidae was not included here as it will be published separately.
