Wood of 13 species occurring in gallery forests in the Midwest of Brazil were studied. To qualify woods destined for energy generation, among other parameters, were considered the wall fraction of fibres of parenchymatic cells and vessel elements, and the basic density and percentage of fibres. As to production of pulp for paper, the woods were qualified on the basis of the Runkel index, the rigidity and flexibility coefficients and the percentage of fibres.
