Abstract

Home automation, or domotics, is the technology used in integrated systems that control some functions of electronic equipments, providing comfort, security, communication and energy management. The purpose of this study is to present the most cited concepts in the literature regarding the use of domotics, their applications, and correlation with energy efficiency, in addition to the advantages or disadvantages conferred by it. The research was carried out through a bibliographic survey, between February and March 2018, thus getting information that might corroborate the results of discussions and gather research data from different authors, among which the most relevant works were selected. Based on this information, it was shown that the application of domotics, besides improving multiple residential functions, by grouping them and making them faster, also generates a reduction in energy expenditure of up to 40%, in specific cases. The following can be appointed, respectively, as part of the many advantages and disadvantages raised: greater domestic security, and possible reduction of jobs. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that in this system there is a decrease in electric energy expenditures, although it is necessary to perform a study related to the management of electronic waste from these facilities for its most satisfactory use in all spheres of society.
