The objective of this research was to verify the effectiveness of application of the Brazilian law “Lei nº 11.947/2009”, by implementing a situational diagnosis of the Brazilian national school feeding program (PNAE) in municipalities in the southern mesoregion of state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The information obtained was submitted to descriptive statistical analysis as a data organization tool. Through tables, the absolute and percentage frequencies were computed; thus, information from the sample has been extracted. Data provided by the undersecretariat of family agriculture (Subsecretaria de Agricultura Familiar – SAF) of the Brazilian national education development fund (FNDE) show that 60.78% of the municipalities reached 30% or more of the total financial resources passed on by the federal government in the acquisition of foodstuffs from family farming; 17.64% did not purchase family farming products in 2016; and only 10% bought organic or agroecological products. At the mesoregion, in 23 municipalities, there are more than 200 producers with a statement of suitability to the FNDE, and in only 5 municipalities there are organized family farming associations or cooperatives that have the active statement of suitability to the Brazilian national program for strengthening of family farming (Pronaf). It is concluded that the availability of this data on the PNAE may contribute with the executing agencies in contextualizing the operation of this program and to its effectiveness of application.Downloads
