The Geographical Indication (GI) is legal protection of the exclusive use of geographical names of origin of differentiated products. GI’s institutional evolution and its spread in the world had France as the protagonist. This is an organizational, market and institutional innovation of a distinct nature from the one often involving public agricultural research. The objective of this work was to analyze how agricultural research in France has been interacting with GIs. The case study of the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) analyzes its interaction with the evolution of GIs (AOC and PGI) in France and its international repercussions. The study analyzed the projects executed, the partnerships and the production of ST&I generated by the institution in the GI theme. The contributions of INRA in different institutional domains relevant to the development of GIs stood out. The analysis is based on secondary data and identifies the evolution and the type of knowledge generated by the agricultural research that contribute to the performance factors of the institutional domains related to the GIs. Results show INRA’s interactions with several processes of evolution of the institutional domains, revealing the role of public agricultural research in the process of organizational innovation related to signs of quality of territorial goods.Downloads
