Abstract

The objective of this article is to characterize and identify the work processes in family agroecosystems of guaraná (Paullinia cupana), in the community of São Miguel do Marajazinho, in municipality of Urucará, state of Amazonas, Brazil from the perspective of agroecology. In the study carried out in 2022 and 2023, individual data collection tools such as interview forms were used and complemented with the participatory rural diagnosis technique. It was sought to understand the local reality based on understanding the whole, assuming that family agroecosystems are influenced by the context in which they are inserted. In the study, 23 farmers from the community participated. The socioeconomic characterization of the community was carried out and the main agricultural activity was identified. The predominant crop in the community is the cultivation of guaraná (Paullinia cupana). Despite being based on monoculture, it constitutes agroecosystems with low external inputs and a diversity of agricultural species, adapted to the reality of family farming. The analysis indicates that the guaraná cultivation system is close to traditional modes of production. However, there is still much to be researched and learned to establish socio-environmental relationships and the implementation of agroecology in consolidated agricultural systems in Amazonas.
