Exports grow as a result of global changes, which will impact the beef market. Strategic decisions related to exports are mainly based on internal resources and forces external to the companies. The objective of this article was to map variables and propose dimensions that represent competitiveness, resources and capabilities of global beef exporting production chains with the potential to influence export performance. Two samples from the main exporting countries were used for two different periods: 2009 to 2013 and 2014 to 2018. Variables and international databases were identified. Exploratory factorial statistical analyses were performed. The main results were the resources and capabilities of the production chains that have potential to interfere in export performance, which are associated with productivity: the average carcass weight, number of slaughters, and beef production. External aspects associated with country competitiveness that have potential to affect the beef exports performance were also defined, which are: institutions; financial market development; higher education and training; labor market efficiency; goods market efficiency; business sophistication; and R&D innovation. At the end of this article, theoretical and methodological contributions, managerial implications, limitations, and suggestions for future studies were presented.
