The sustainable agriculture concept, as a purpose of development, supposes an engagement of the family farms. The comprehension of the relationship between the farmers, the nature, the techniques and the environmental risks is one of the most important objectives of the sustainable development policy. We propose, from an empirical study carried out in Guaíra region, SP, Brazil, a theoretical and methodological approach that allows, from the point of view of the social sciences, an analysis of the farmers techniques and their interpretations of the environment, that contrast with technology and with the scientific and technical uncertainities. This analysis is a form of questioning the role of nature in modern societies that depends on a process concerning the following dynamics: how to articulate, in a certain configuration, the relationship between the technical and social processes and various management devices?Downloads
