In order to better understand the new realities of the end of the millennium there is a new language to define emerging facts. One of the greatest examples is Naisbitt's work, from which a concept of Megatrends emerged. Assuming that Naisbitt's concept of Megatrends is very absolute, in this present essay it is placed in contrast with two other concepts of same nature: Megacountertrends and Gigapatterns. The former, associated with Megatrends, is to designate, in a better manner, the dialectic characteristic of the social facts. The latter, is to deal with aspects and dimensions of those same facts that exceed the scope of the two types of trends. To illustrate these new concepts, some examples from economy, religion, education and technology are given.Downloads
