Abstract

The Brazilian agro-food industry is living a deep restructuring process. This restructuring has been related to the increasingly organizational and technical changes that took place since the second half of the 1970s. The external competitiveness and changes in Brazilian consumer profile could be pointed out as main elements of this process. Due to this new framework the segments of logistic and distribution (retail, wholesale, catering and others) come out as dynamic links in the agro-food chain. Evidences arose in this paper has empowered to affirm that this links has got better positions regarding the determining of profit margins and product mix.
