Abstract

The "green revolution" and the "biorevolution" are reported and analysed as to the questions and options of the biotechnology strategics, the resources, and the priorities and objectives of research within the International centers. The enormous complexity of many socioeconomic subjects related to the role of biotechnology in the development is identified and discussed. The complexity, the amount of possible alternatives and the fast growth of new research lines turn the forecasting or prognostic into a matter of speculation, which makes the future of biotechnology not predetermined, but in fact made up by the game of social forces. It's time for the definers of the sector political establishments to get consciousness as to the possibilities of the specific challenges and traps.
