Three phases in the process of Brazilian industrialization in relation to agriculture are distinguished. The first phase is characterized by the development of urban capitalism at the cost of enormous transfers of resources from the rural areas for industrialization. The second phase reflects the expansion of agroindustry and the penetration of modern capitalism in to rural areas. The third phase, currently underway, is that of a fusion of the interests of agroindustry and that of the farmers. At the end of the discussion, conclusions and recommendations are presented.Downloads
