Abstract

Information about institutional reorganization in some countries and analysis of a regional agricultural research institute - Instituto Agronômico do Paraná State - is the aim of this article. The summary of different strategies let us identify some common aspects: the emergency of a new scientific paradigm, a new definition of research institutes functions in technology generation, the exhaustion of public funding, new mechanisms that increase administrative and financial flexibility. In order to ease the analysis of IAPAR's case some indicators have been elaborated: funding, number of research and their qualification, changes in research programs and search for new funding sources. Besides, we identify agenda topics in the last few years. We conclude that regional agricultural research institutes are affected by general changes and are trying to change their organizational structure.
