Resumen

O trabalho apresenta uma visão de conjunto do desenvolvimento das biotecnologias ao nível internacional, particularmente nos países avançados. Na parte final procura-se localizar a importância deste setor para o futuro econômico dos países em desenvolvimento, particularmente do impacto no comércio internacional. Procura indicar particularmente as modificações que as biotecnologias terão sobre a estrutura industrial, especialmente a tendência à unificação dos setores químico, farmacêutico, alimentar e agrícola.

THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF BIOTECHNOLOGIES AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This work presents a picture of the development of biotechnologies on the international level, particularly in the developed countries. It attempts to ascertain the importance of this sector for the economic future of developing countries, particularly with regard to the economic impact on international trade, as well as the effects biotechnologies will have on the industrial structure, especially concerning the tendency toward unification of the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and agricultural sectors.
