In Brazil, species of the genus Eucalyptus are widely cultivated mainly because of their good adaptability. However, there is the possibility that the physiological behavior differ between plants transplanted to environments with different characteristics. The objective of this work was to determine the basic wood density and fiber size of a eight-year-old E. grandis x E. urophylla clone planted in two locations. Samples of three trees were collected from each site. The basic density of site 1 showed 0.556 g cm-³ mean, and that of site 2 showed 0.542 g cm-³. The length and diameter of fibers did not show difference between sites; however, wall thickness and lumen diameter had a significant difference as a consequence of the environment. The fiber quality indices show that the genetic material is suitable for cellulose production at both sites.Downloads
