Abstract

Rabies virus was isolated from the testicles, uterus, fetus, salivary and inter-scapulary glands, tongue, pectoral muscle, spleen, kidneys, heart, lungs, bladder, and brain of vampire bats, (Desmodus rotundus) that were naturally infected. The rabies determinations were verified through intra-cerebral inoculation of adult lactating mice. The samples of virus isolated from the different bat tissues were identified as rabies virus by the formation of Negri bodies in the cytoplasm of the brain nerve cells of the inoculated mice.
