The genetic adaptation of soybeans to the tropics great expansion of its cultivation in the Cerrados (Brazilian Savannas). However, the scarcity of early varieties has limited adequate planning of its cultivation. The cultivar BR-40 (Itiquira), selected to suit this farmers' demand, has the advantage of satisfactory plant height for combine harvest and is less exposed to drought which affects late soybeans. As a consequence, it shows a better yield performance than those in late sowings.
