A simple method for measuring macro and microporosity in undisturbed soil samples using a modification of the “tension table" suggested by Leamer & Shaw (1941) was described in detail. This apparatus was constructed in the Instituto de Pesquisas e Experimentação Agropecuárias do Nordeste laboratories and has been utilized successfully by the author since 1963. The paper includes a drawing of the apparatus and a table illustrating the calculations.
