Abstract

Agriculture is one of the sectors most affected by the variability and irregularity of rainfall, typical of semi-arid climate that prevails in the State of Ceará. Although it is less dependent than rainfed agriculture, irrigated crops also suffer the impacts, especially in prolonged dry periods characterized by low inflow to the main reservoirs of the state. In this paper we present the main Agrometeorological Information Systems developed by FUNCEME to support decision-making for sustainable management in the agricultural sector. These technological solutions, available over the internet, enable to identify pedoclimatic potential areas for different crops, to estimate crop yields in advance, and to provide support to decisions regarding when to plant in a rainfed agriculture context, or how much to irrigate based on weather conditions.
