This study aimed to analyze breakpoints and trends in air temperature and precipitation time series from 1960 to 2015 in six meteorological stations located in the main temperate fruit-producing region of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The methodology included homogeneity tests (Pettitt, SNHT, Buishand) and trend analysis using the Mann-Kendall test and Sen’s Slope estimator, applied to segmented series (1960–1989, 1990–2015, and 1960–2015). The results indicated predominant breakpoints during the 1990s and a significant increasing trend in minimum temperature in most municipalities, especially in Caçador, Videira, and Campos Novos. Maximum temperature showed an increasing trend in some locations, such as Lages, though with less consistency. Precipitation series did not exhibit significant trends, reflecting high interannual variability and heterogeneous spatial patterns. The findings suggest an ongoing regional warming process with implications for temperate fruit cultivation, particularly due to the potential reduction in chilling hours. This highlights the need for adaptive strategies, such as breeding of cultivars with lower chilling requirements, to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production.
