During XXth century, several social actors joined to install and develop an institutional complex known as our system of science and technology. To point out its characteristics and dynamics, its capacity to satisfy demands and to face new ones in order to efficiently survive, is the main purpose of this article which focuses on: actors: government, intellectual leadership, scientific associations, international agents, the growing number of businessmen and other groups of citizens - the "new actors"; science & technology system: institutions, dynamic, input and output, regional diversity; challenges: science and techmology for improving Brazilian citizenship and to prepare tomorrow scientists; improving system's quality with selective growing investment in science and technology.Downloads
