Research establishments bear the imprints of researchers backgrounds and sociodemographic characteristics. Institutions, in turn, shape research practices and influence researchers' motivations to pursue basic and applied lines of research. Based on the analysis of a national survey of agricultural researchers, the purpose of this paper is two-fold: to characterize the community of agricultural researchers and to assess sources of influence on their research. Evidence is provided of the extent to which sociodemographic and institutional factors influence the process of research in agricultural sciences in Uruguay.Downloads
