Abstract

Beekeeping is an important national productive segment. In addition to contributing to the Brazilian economy, it also plays a strong social role, for generating employment and income, as well as for encouraging the formation and consolidation of collective spaces for self-management, such as cooperatives and associations. In this context, the present work aimed to carry out a study on the organizational and productive experience of a beekeeping association in the Vale do Capão (trade name: Flor Nativa), located in the rural area of the municipality of Palmeiras, in the Chapada Diamantina region. Methodologically, a documentary research was carried out, and, from that, a synthesis of information for the design of a case study was performed. This study allowed characterizing the particularities of this organization of beekeepers, in addition to highlighting its relevance in local development, as well as in stimulating the emergence of new social self-management initiatives in the Chapada Diamantina region.
