Since the 1960s, soybean has been Brazil’s primary oilseed, driven by government support, technological advancements, and a favorable global market. In the state of São Paulo, Brazil, soybean cultivation area has been expanding uninterruptedly, and soybean is the dominating annual crop. It should also be highlighted that soybean productivity has expanded. Thus, the objective of this article was to analyze regional trends regarding soybean cultivated area, production and productivity in the state of São Paulo from 1993 to 2022. The following calculations were performed: influence of area and productivity on the growth in soybean production; and growth rates of area, production and productivity, performed by the Coordenadoria de Assistência Técnica Integral – Cati (Integral Technical Assistance Coordination) regional offices. For most of the regions analyzed, the results confirmed the hypothesis that cultivated area expansion has contributed more to the growth of soybean production in São Paulo than productivity gains.
