The earlier soybean cultivars IAS-5, Planalto, Década, BR-4 and Bragg, and the late cultivars IAC-Foscarin-31, LC 70609 Sulina, CEP 7510 and IAC-4, were evaluated under field conditions of high nutrient availability and proper plant growth conditions. To obtain maximum yields, irrigation was utilized, weeds, insects and diseases were controlled. Higher harvest index values were observed for Planalto, IAS-5, Sulina, Bragg and BR-4 cultivars, which also presented a tendency for longer duration of reproductive period. Harvest index values for all cultivars were negatively associated with plant height, biological yield and lodging. Higher seed yield (kg/ha) were obtained by Bragg, BR-4, Planalto and IAS-5 which presented a better efficiency of conversion of biological yield to seed yield.
