Abstract

Subfreezing and freezing temperatures in Hevea brasiliensis leaves were determined by thermal analysis using iron-constantan thermocouples. The measurements were done in mature leaves of plants cultivated in Conviron chambers, simulating spring/autumm and winter conditions. Subfreezing and freezing temperatures were found to be -7.5°C and -4.8°C, respectively. These values were inferior than those observed for coffee tree and sugar cane, suggesting higher cold resistance for rubber tree.
