Effect of processing on pea seed quality

Abstract

Basic seed of the pea (Pisum sativum L.) cultivars Kodama and Juma were produced in the experimental fields of the Brazilian National Vegetable Research Center - CNPH/EMBRAPA - in 1990. After mechanical harvest, the seeds were taken to the Seed Processing Unit, where classification by size, and colour (cv. Kodama, and by specific weight (cv. Juma) took place. Results indicated that classification by size did not affect seed quality; seed specific weight had a strong influence on the seed physical and physiological qualities and differences in seed colour were statistically associated with differences in seed physiological qualities.
