Abstract

This work has the purpose of studying price formation of cassava and its derivatives, especially flour and gum, in the city of Rio Branco, state of Acre, Brazil. Specifically, it seeked to identify the market agents involved in the marketing chain of cassava and to analyze the buying and selling prices of these products. The hypothesis of this work considers that the market of cassava has strong deregulation due to the low organization of the market agents involved in its marketing chain. The methodology adopted is based on the collection of information to identify and describe the structure and market agents of the marketing chains, as well as to determine the marketing margins and mark-ups of cassava and its derivatives. The results showed that the marketing chain of cassava is very complex and has many market agents involved. It was noticed that the highest margins of marketing are concentrated among the retailers.
