Beef cattle production and the impacts generated by that culture are always being debated by the specialized media, society and researchers. Beef cattle production is responsible for the creation and maintenance of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and it is one of the pillars of the national agribusiness GDP. It is also, nowadays, a centerpiece and strategic element for Brazil. The great transformations in beef cattle production over the decades, which were obtained through science and technology, have provided productivity growth, leading to what has been called the land-saving effect. Widespread in works that point to the mitigation of gases of greenhouse and agriculture, the land-saving effect started to be debated within beef cattle production. By using the data provided by IBGE, it was possible to measure and monitor the development of that culture in the Midwestern Region of Brazil. When analyzing the period between 2006 and 2017, the result obtained in this study indicates that the region saved 11 million hectares, as a result of the increasing use of technologies and investments that developed a more efficient and sustainable production system.
