In the current bioeconomy scenario, the application of vegetable oils as renewable raw material has been diversified in the most different scientific and technological areas. In some cases, vegetable oil has become the substitute for non-renewable sources in the generation of technologies. This issue is relevant, since vegetable oils are used for energy and fuel production, with a wide variety of sources and in line with the edaphoclimatic conditions of each country. In this scenario, the objective of this study is to present the technological evolution of the industrial application of vegetable oils for production of fuels in a ten-year period (2008–2017) and to point out market trends. From patent documents of 18 oilseed species, the signal methodology was applied for technological trend analysis. In the end, it was shown that the “energy and fuels” area didn’t have a gradual evolution, against a worldwide proposal for migration to technologies generated from renewable sources.
