Abstract

Funds of commodities are institutional arrangements widely adopted in agricultural sectors. They enable the endogenous financing of investments in research and development, and the addition of value to agricultural products. The objective of this article was to analyze the role that investments financed with resources from the Mato Grosso cotton incentive program (Proalmat) played in the technological progress of cotton farming and regional development of municipalities in that Brazilian state. We assessed the possible impact of the contribution of Proalmat resources on the qualification of the municipal work force employed in cotton farming activities, in the period 2006–2019. The results show that the cotton fund positively affected the municipal employment relationships of workers at middle, and high levels of education.
