Adoption of Agriculture 4.0: A study on soybean producers in the western region of Paraná

This paper analyzed the information decode capabilities of small and medium scale soy farmers that can lead to the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 technologies. The research was carried out from a case study of soy producers associated with an agro-industrial cooperative located in the west of the state of Paraná. Questionnaires were applied to rural producers and cooperative employees were interviewed. The results show that soybean producers have applied of the Agriculture 3.0 technology, they should apply more intensively automation technology. Outsourcing was fundamental to incorporate innovation without spending capital resources. Human capital, social capital, and support structure were important for information decode capabilities that can lead to the adoption of technologies. An opportunity was identified for the cooperative to promote to producers and their families the ability to decode information, making them capable of advancing to the technologies of Agriculture 4.0.
