Dendrometric and ecological study of a gallery forest of the Midwest region of Brazil

One hectare of gallery forest of São Bartolomeu river, in the Federal District, Brazil, was studied. It is located in an environmental Protection Area of the future dam to be constructed on the same river. Among other parameters, the volume, the quantity of dry wood of stem and branchs (value in ton), the form factor (Lidier coefficient) and basal area were determined. Six hundred and forty-nine trees with 5 cm diameter or more, belonging to 82 species were inventoried in this area. The total volume of wood was 198.9505 m 3 and 144.233 tons of dry wood. Four thousand, two hundred and sixty-three succession specimens with diameter lower than 5 cm were registered.
