Cowpea cultivars (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Waip) have been tested as to their adaptability and yield stability in seven environments of both Açu-Apodi and Natal microregions of Rio Grande do Norte State, Northeastern Brazil. Eberhart & Russell method of stability analysis was uscd for both brown and cream seed materials, and Finlay & Wilkinson test for white seed materials. With regards to brown and cream seed materials, cultivars like Liso, Mozart, Pitiúba, Sempre Verde, and Alagoas V-4, as well as CNC 21-07E une presented average yield stability and adaptability. The tines CNC 164-03E and CNC 321-1E showed stability and specific adaptation to unfavorable environments. Concerning white seed materials, lines like CNC 177-05E and CNC 177-O1E, and the cultivar Riso do Ano, had average yield stability and wide adaptability. A high degree of yield stability and wide adaptability were characteristics of CNC 176-01E tine
