The persistence of Alachlor was investigated during three years in a clay soil under field condition of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) crop at São Pauto State, Brazil. Oat bioassays determined under a phytotron conditions showed that Alachlor did not present residual bioactivity after two to eight weeks its application, at zero to 10 cm depth in a clay soil. The length of time the herbicide remains in the soil is related with the rain occurrence.
