Abstract

This experiment was carried out with the Smooth Cayenne pineapple cultivar at Araruama, RJ, Brazil, in a red-Yellow podzolic soil, to study the effect of fermented garbage applied at the following rates per linear meter: 0 kg (control); 1,400 kg; 2,100 kg; 2,800 kg and 3,500 kg laid out in a randomized block design, replicated four times. The variance analysis showed a significant difference (P <0.01) of the treatment with 3,500 kg of fermented garbage per linear meter over the control. Plants receiving that amount of fermented garbage yielded fruit with an increase of 30.6% in weight, and 7.4% in diameter, as compared with the control.
