Abstract

Two experimental trials were carried out in order to compare pineapple cultivars Perola and Smooth Cayenne (Ananas comosus) in a Regossol soil at Quiçamã Experiment Station, Rio de Janeiro State, and in a Red-Yellow Podzolic soil at Macaé Experiment Station Brazil. In the Regossol soil the Smooth Cayenne showed differences, at 1% significance level related to crown weight and length. No differences were found related to weight and fruit diameter in both cultivars. In the Red-Yellow Podzolic soil, the Smooth Cayenne cultivar presented larger and heavier fruit, larger crown and higher acidity and °brix.
