Abstract

Hypogastrura (Ceratophysella) armata Nicolet, 1841 (Collembola: Poduridae) was found causing heavy tosses to Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) growers in Águas Claras and Vargem da Benção, near Brasília, DF, The pinky collembolans were grouped into hundreds of individuals, and located in plant roots. Insect colonized plants presented the following symptoms: retarded growth; chlorosis on the old leaves; bronzing or decoloration and death of buds and young leaves; absence of secondary roots under severe infestations. The plant stand was also affected by the insect damage.
