Samples of cashew plants (Anacardium occidentale L.) were introduced by EMBRAPA/Centro do Pesquisa Agropecuária dos Cerrados (CPAC) and EMBRAPA/Centro Nacional de Recursos Genéticos (CENARGEN) at Brasília, Brazil, to evaluate their performance under "cerrado" conditions. The performance and phenological data of the introduced plants were evaluated and their behavior was compared to that of native species. The observations suggest the possibility of obtaining dwarf plants which permit high density planting and easier cultivation.
