Abstract

In the 1980/81 and 1981/82 growing seasons a national trial of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) was conducted at the Centro Nacional de Pesquisa do Trigo (National Wheat Research Center - CNPT) to evaluate the behavior of sweet sorghum genotypes in the uplands of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The cultivar BR 505 showed the highest yield of stems in both seasons of experimentation. It was also noticed that in the 1981/82 growing season all cultivars and hybrids tested showed sensitivity to water stress. Sweet sorghum showed potential for development in that region.
