Using dry weight of aerial parts (leaves, including petioles; stems; pericarp; seeds of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) at harvest, a study was carried out to determine the influence of plant population density on the partition of photosyntate products among aerial parts of beans plants with different growth habits. Three cultivars were used: Canário 107-a determinate bush type; Michoacan 12-A-3, an indeterminate short-vine, erect type; Negro 150, and Flor de Mayo X-16441, indeterminate climbing long-vine. By varying population density, the determinate-habit and indeterminate short-vine erect cultivars showed less variation in the partition of dry weight of aerial parts than the indeterminate climbing short-vine type cultivars.
