Abstract

Aiming to evaluate e possible variation of pollen viability in five different Hevea clones, a study of in vitro germination was carried out. Four different concentrations of sucrose, galactose, glucose and lactose were utilized. Results showed that 10%, 15% and 20% concentration of sucrose gave the best result for Fx 4098, Fx 3864 and IAN 873 clones, and Heves camargoana, respectively. Ten percent of glucose gave the best result for Fx 3925 clone. All clones germinated in sucrose medium, but the percentual of germination varied duo the medium concentration. It was observed that the concentration variation of the medium was more important than the variation among the clones under the conditions this study was carried out. It is possible that variations among amazonian clones, Hevea brasiliensis intraspecific hybrids, were as important as interspecific hybrids.
