Abstract

A field experiment was carried out at the Centro Experimental de Campinas, SP, Brazil, during the year of 1982 to evaluate the effect of seven sowing densities of three wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars on the grain yield and other agronomic characteristics. It was observed that higher density resulted in higher yield of grain for the early wheat cultivars IAC-17 and IAC-18, no differences in grain yield in Alondra-46. Grain yield of the cultivar IAC-17 showed significant correlation with plant density, production of straw, number of heads per m2 and hectolitric weight. For the cultivar IAC-18 grain yield was correlated with plant density and number of heads per m2 and for the cultivar Alondra46 grain yield was correlated with head length, number of grain per head and 1000 seed weigth.
