Abstract

Studies wore performed on the effect of the pesticides carbaryl, methomyl, decamethrin, heptachlor, diazinon, chlorpyrifos ethyl, fonofos and Bacillus thuringiensis on fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, in corn field. At forty-eight hours and at 8 days after the pesticide application, an evaluation was made of the number of living and dead larvae. Based on the 48-hour observation, it can be concluded that the insecticides chlorpyrifos ethyl (Lorsban 4 EC) and methomyl (Lannate 90 PS), gave good result against the insect. 5. thuringiensis presented no effect on the fall armyworm larvae. All the chemical insecticides provided good residual effect against fall armyworm larvae, keeping the plants free from reinfestation up to 8 days after pesticide application.
