Abstract

A research work carried out in 1980, at the National Wheat Research Center, Passo Fundo, Brazil, to evaluate the effects of rainfall on Lagoa Vermelha and Londrina wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, in the greenhouse and free of disease and pests, presented yield losses of about 33,33% and 23,68%, respectively. Thousand kernel weight, number of kernels per head and yield were reduced on both wheat cultivars. A new perspective on the importance of wheat breeding program for tolerance to climatic factors is also discussed in the present research.
