In arder lo evaluale lhe influence ai loas ai planta on the yield ci experimental plois, and to compare methods ai correctian of stand in common bean (Phaseo!us vu/ga ris (L)) cropa, trials with simulatian ol diiierent proportions of gaps were carried out in Sete Lagoas, MC, in 1983. Two bean cultivara, CNF-005 and Pintado were used, a differenttrial being set up for each cultivar. The Inala were conducted in randomized complete blocks with seven replicates. The nuniber of pods per plant, grain yield per plant, and grain yield in kg/ha were assessed. The resulta obtained lar both cultivara were In agreement, and showed that bean planta have capacity to compensate for lhe gapa by a greater productivity ai the planta situated nextto lhe gaps. Thisstability in grain yield was explained principally by the number af pads per plani, which showed itseli sufficiently plastic to compensate lhe total grain yield in kg/ha even in lhe arnaller stands. Regarding the methods of cornection of lhe stands, lhe expression lhat employed lhe coefticient of linear regression (b) was shown lo be eflicieni in correcting data of grain yield and its components, whilst lhe expression o? Zuber was equally efficient, but only for grain yield.
